KATHMANDU — Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has stated that Nepal’s participation in the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) was highly successful in advancing national interests and elevating the country’s diplomatic standing. Speaking at a press conference at Tribhuvan International Airport upon his return from New York, Minister Khanal noted that the international community responded positively to Nepal’s proposals.
Minister Khanal highlighted Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s address to the General Assembly alongside over 33 bilateral engagements conducted by the Nepali delegation, emphasizing that these efforts strengthened bilateral ties with partner nations. “This engagement has laid a clear foundation to empower Nepal’s diplomacy and promote our national interests moving forward,” he remarked.
During the summit, Nepal strongly advocated for climate justice, addressing the aftermath of the devastating Bhote Koshi floods, and other vital national and global issues. The Foreign Minister added that Prime Minister Shah’s address drew significant interest both domestically and internationally, becoming one of the most-watched speeches at this year’s UN assembly. He reaffirmed that the delegation operated strictly with Nepal’s core national interests at the center.
